SHOESTRING
I read a line in a novel "she started a gallery on a shoestring". I thought "I have a shoestring", and immediately created annhomanART.
As an emerging gallery, I thought I'd better collaborate with emerging artists. OCAD's 2007 OCAD Graduate Show was happing within days. I spent a weekend there collecting business cards and talking to grads.
I kicked off the gallery by curating Andy Morris' Flash-based interactive piece Window Shopping for Dyan Marie's BloorNIGHTLIGHT, a collaborative street-based installation at Lansdowne & Bloor, part of Nuit Blanche in September 2007. It was so wonderful to have so many visitors to our troubled main street. We worked the sidewalk talking to visitors, playing with Window Shopping, the men all vamping it up when they were virtually dressed in Versace gold lame, until about 3am when the knives came out among some angry young men competing for crack customers
annhomanART's first exhibit opened two weeks later, with the first in the Emerging Artists series. Emerging Artists Four opens tomorrow.
