I grew up in the country and long for fields, forests, streams, and wildlife. Finding happiness in the city has become a futile task. Living in isolation on a farm, my culture was sitting at a table with my family for homemade meals and talking about our day. Having bonfires all year round. Playing outside in the snow, the rain, the sun and the fog. Scaring snakes from the garden, and watching turtles lay eggs. Skating on uneven ponds and saying hello to the neighbours because we want to. The city has left me distant and cold, but without it, I would not be a painter.
